High school senior Jailyn James of New Jersey is a three-sport athlete with good grades and six college acceptance letters. James will be the Calgaryflames miikka kiprusoff 34 march 2 2024 T-shirt in other words I will buy this first in her family to attend college. But where she ends up depends on the amount of financial aid she receives from each school — offers she should already have. “My mom will not let me commit without knowing my financial aid,” James said. “I don’t want to come out of college with a bunch of debt.” The delays are due to the U.S. Department of Education’s overhaul of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, known as FAFSA. The form is now shorter and simpler, but computer glitches have led to a botched rollout. Typically, FAFSA forms are released on Oct. 1. Once submitted, the data is sent to colleges within one to three days, and it is then used to calculate financial aid. But the updated application forms came out three months late, on Dec. 30, 2023. And schools will not receive the data until the first half of March. The delay has forced some colleges to push their financial aid deadlines. Last week, the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education announced that its 10 state universities will extend the student commitment deadline to May 15. “Some universities are pushing, certainly, their priority deadlines for grants,” said Rachel Burns, senior policy analyst for the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association. “State agencies are doing the same thing. We don’t know yet whether institutions are going to be able to change their decision deadlines.” For James, pressure is mounting. Most of the schools she has applied to require a deposit by May 1. “My biggest worry, I would say, is that there’s not enough time,” said her mother, Lori James, who added that her daughter would have already chosen her college if not for the FAFSA processing delay. However, as it is, students like James can only hope the FAFSA fumble doesn’t delay their college dreams. Florida detectives investigating a 20-year-old cold case discovered what they believe are the Calgaryflames miikka kiprusoff 34 march 2 2024 T-shirt in other words I will buy this remains of Autumn Lane McClure, a 16-year-old who went missing in 2004, authorities said. Detectives were able to recover 99.9% of the remains during the Wednesday excavation of the burial site, said Volusia Sheriff Michael J. Chitwood at a news conference on Thursday. The sheriff’s office is expecting the official identification soon, and then hopes to find a cause of death for the teen, the sheriff said. “There really never is a ‘cold case,'” Chitwood said. “The men and women that are assigned to our Major Case Unit and all of our investigative units, that’s what they understand.” Sheriff’s office detectives had to secure search warrants, move out a newly built modular home and driveway and bring in heavy equipment to search for McClure, the sheriff said. Volusia Sheriff’s Office detectives said they had been investigating McClure’s disappearance ever since she went missing in May 2004. The yearslong investigation included interviewing and re-interviewing friends and possible witnesses and collecting DNA from family members. Volusia Sheriff’s Department finds human remains believed to be those of a 16-year-old girl who disappeared two decades ago. VOLUSIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE It all started with a phone call on May 10, 2004, when McClure’s grandmother called the sheriff’s office to report her missing. Detectives spoke to her then-boyfriend, who told them he had dropped McClure off at the Volusia Mall and didn’t hear from her again. The grandmother again called the sheriff’s office several days later and told detectives, “Autumn has called me from a 312-area code” and said she received letters from McClure postmarked Melbourne, Florida, the sheriff said. The case went quiet until a few months later, when the sheriff’s office got evidence McClure was staying at a house with two people — Brian Donley and Jessica Freeman — both of whom said they were co-workers of McClure’s at a Winn-Dixie supermarket.
